Congratulations on the arrival of your new bundle of joy! As a new parent, it's natural to want to capture all the precious moments of your baby's development. What better way to do so than with a professional baby photo session? But to make the most of your session, it's essential to understand your baby's developmental milestones and how they can be incorporated into the photographs. In this post, we'll go over some typical milestones and when to schedule your photo session to capture them.
Here's some milestones to look for in your baby's development and what kind of photos you can expect to capture. If you want to learn more about these developmental cycles, check out the Center for Disease Control's website here.
Birth to 3 Months:
During this stage, your baby is still developing their head and neck control, so they will spend most of their time on their back or tummy. Some milestones to look out for during this time include your baby pushing up on their arms while lying on their tummy, bringing their hands up to their mouth, and tracking moving objects with their eyes while lying on their back. They may also smile at voices or sounds and show interest in faces. This is an excellent time for a belly photo session, where your baby can show off their tummy time skills and adorable facial expressions.
4 to 6 Months:
At this stage, your baby will start to gain more control over their body and be able to sit up using their hands for support, roll over from their back to tummy, and reach for toys while on their belly. They may also use both hands to feel toys and bring objects to their mouth. This is a perfect time for a sitter session, where your baby can show off their newfound sitting skills and play with some fun props.
7 to 9 Months:
During this stage, your baby will show more independence and mobility, sitting up without support, picking up small objects with their fingers and thumb, and attempting to crawl. They may also start to recognize the sound of their name and imitate sounds. This is a great time for another sitter or standing session, where your baby can show off their standing skills with the help of furniture or holding onto your hands.
10 to 12 Months:
At this stage, your baby will be even more mobile, pulling up to stand and using furniture for support, crawling toward objects, and speaking one or two words. They may also be able to feed themselves with finger foods and use gestures and hand movements to communicate their wants and needs. This is a perfect time for a standing session, where your baby can show off their newfound standing skills and play with some fun props.
By scheduling your photo sessions around your baby's developmental milestones, you can capture all the precious moments of their growth and development. Whether it's a belly session, sitter session, or standing session, your photographer can work with you to create beautiful and timeless photographs that you'll treasure for years to come.
Photographing these early moments of your baby's life is precious and will create memories you will cherish forever.
