Your family wall gallery is a unique way to present your most important memories to the world. To make something you will enjoy for years to come. At Courtney Ranck-Copher Photography we design your portraits to fit in with your decor and have found that these are the 3 essential interior design tips you need to know before hanging up that first portrait.
Space
This first principle has two components. The space that the artwork goes into and the distance between pieces in your wall gallery.
When it comes to hanging your artwork, the shape of the artwork should match the shape of the space. For example, if you have a wall with a square border, your artwork should also be square.
The next space to note is the spaces in a collage. The space between pieces of your collage is to be hung 1-3 inches apart. Also, observe and adjust the length of your frames and the spaces between them for the following principle.
Length
Keep in mind the size of your wall gallery and the spaces you will have between pieces. The aesthetics will not look correct if the grouping is too big or too small. Your entire art group should be ⅔ the length of a piece of furniture below the space you are hanging. The aesthetics will not look correct if the grouping is too small or too large.
Height
The second thing you need to know is how far off the ground to hang your wall art. Most people will say, “eye level.” What is eye level? If you have a piece of furniture, artwork should hang 6-10 inches above it. If you don’t have a piece of furniture the vertical center should be 60”-66” from the finished floor.

When you follow the three fundamental principles I’ve outlined, you will be well on your way to building a gorgeous family wall gallery. Ultimately, the best principle is to plan everything out before you start hanging. The video above will give you more ideas on how to do this.
